Herbs Are The New Black
Whenever someone asks me what I do, I cringe. There are so many words to describe it, but because I do so much I honestly never know where to start. And I'm usually so excited to share the latest story of an herb with them, that I am constantly talking to myself, nudging my mouth to open and just answer the question. Am I an herbalist, a practitioner, an esthetician, a product formulator, an author, or a health educator? YIKES! The problem is that when I use the credentials I have to explain what I do, it will pigeon hole me every time. No one really wants to hear that you're a certified or licensed anything. They just want to know what the heck you can do for them. The worst is having a potential customer or client think of me as just one of those roles I mentioned, when I know my job consists of SO. MUCH. MORE.
As a holistic practitioner, which is what I typically say these days, I know that I use a number of approaches to help people improve their health, period. So, I stopped over thinking it and just stuck with "practitioner."
While I'm venting, I have to get something off my chest. There are so many trendy health MLM/Network Marketing companies (some with great products) with distributors who know nothing about the body. They simply like the company's compensation plan and sell, sell, sell or recruit like hell to move up higher in the company. My philosophy is OH. SO. DIFFERENT. If you truly want to lose weight or have a flatter belly or just eat better, please do your homework. If you're getting personal training or wellness supplements from someone overweight or with multiple complex illnesses, respectively, you may want to reconsider. No one is perfect - all I'm saying is that you need to be sure that your distributor or rep of a product you like is knowledgeable not only about the product/s, but also about basic anatomy and physiology. I spend hours researching topics, reading white papers and writing abstracts on a regular basis because good health is of the utmost importance to me. You better believe that I take my health seriously, and my customers and clients KNOW IT. Unfortunately, sometimes it still feels like I am pulling teeth to get someone to try something new or even listen to me explain how a particular disease affects the body, for example, while the dude down the street needs no marketing to sell his detox tea or body wrap...Now there isn't anything wrong with those things, but we must demand more than just a product - you deserve the education associated with it. Can your MLM rep give you that, beyond the first few inches you may lose before you plateau? Just sayin'.
Ok - I guess I should stick to the title of this post 😕 now....
Anyhow, herbs are the new BLACK - and you heard that from me! Being a Master Herbalist (although I don't think you ever master anything) is just one of my many roles. Herbs are God's medicine and I use them daily to keep a strong and healthy body in many ways (as do my little ones at home).
Did you know you can take an herb like Skullcap to calm your nervous system and repair the myelin sheath that cover your nerve endings? Or that you could completely detoxify and renew your liver in about three months with herbs like Milk Thistle and Dandelion? That is a very short time considering how long most of us go abusing our livers with alcohol, artificial foods, chemicals, the body's own free radicals, and toxic emotions. The liver stores anger y'all - just sayin'.
Let me keep it simple and say this - I'd like to challenge you to do some research online or in a book on herbal medicine. Pick any random herb and you will find a history of its use longer than you can identify ancestors in your lineage. Are you keeping up with me? The little known secret about herbs is that you can use them to have amazing health and increased longevity, simply by selecting the proper ones and making them a constant in your life, just like the little black dress or those classic black pumps in your closet. Obviously, maintaining a healthy diet and low-stress lifestyle play an extremely vital role in your overall well-being. However, I would love to see herbs have a regular place in the average home so that more people begin to regain control of their health.
If you need help, work with me or another qualified practitioner to help coach you through the usage of herbs for your health. While this may all be new to you, I can help you carve your own path, because, hell, I am certainly not waiting for mainstream medicine to do it.
Reply to this blog with your favorite herb or a question about one. Please don't ask me what my favorite is! There are so many!
Hoping to hear from you soon and better yet, I'm hoping you start using herbs in your life on a daily basis. I am here to help you along your journey.
Peace my lovelies,
Cicely
